Dry coolers are used to cool process liquids, usually pure water or brine, particularly in refrigeration applications, air conditioning or industrial processes, such as natural cooling and cooling of circulating liquids within industrial forming molds. Coolers are called “dry” because they utilize air as the auxiliary fluid. Compared to water-based solutions such as cooling towers, air avoids problems associated with scaling.

Dry coolers are equipped with fans that draw air in from outside the cooler to maintain the heat exchange process. An appropriate temperature difference must be maintained between the cooling medium and the air within a dry cooling system to ensure effective process cooling.

Dry coolers are often used in applications where water is scarce or where the use of water is prohibited due to environmental regulations. They are also commonly used in industrial processes that require cooling to maintain optimal operating conditions, such as power generation and chemical processing.

Advantages of choosing a dry air cooler include:
Easy to install and start
Lower overall operating costs after initial installation
Convenient separation of components allows operators to save important floor space for other equipment
Dry coolers can be programmed to operate year-round, even in low-temperature environments
Dry coolers do not require a continuous water supply; therefore, there are no supply and disposal issues
The heat generated can be directed to other processes, reducing energy waste and increasing overall efficiency.

Application areas:
Digital mining immersion cooling
data center cooling
Air conditioning and refrigeration HVACR
